Training
is of importance as a second priority after patient care at the
North West Armed Forces Hospital program. Under the Post Graduate
and Medical Education Department commitment to continuing education
and training for development of Saudi Nationals and Medical Staff
are provided, which takes place on-site, in-kingdom and abroad.
Organized medical qualifications as the Diploma of Child Health
under the auspices of the conjoint board of the Royal College
of Physicians of Ireland and the Royal College of Surgeons in
Ireland, and examinations leading to the membership in the Royal
College of Physicians and the Fellowship in the Royal College
of Surgeons are provided. Also offered are entry-level basic military
nurse training, paramedical training for both civilians and military
personnel and health care management education at the diploma
and graduate degree levels. Important continuing education for
both Saudi and expatriate nurse is emphasized as well. Program
education is well supported by an extensive medical library with
computer search facilities. The program annually hosts important
medical and health care related symposia.

Continuing Education
- Other on-going courses include Management Courses, First Line
Management and Middle Line Management, all Management staff
of various professions are eligible.
- Clinical programs have been conducted in various nursing units.
In-service Education Department recently had a Total Parenteral
Nutrition (TPN) Workshop and Infection Control Course, these
will be held periodically
- Nursing Case Presentations are given periodically and Medical
Grand Rounds conducted weekly.
- All new nursing personnel receive training regarding specific
policies and practices of the North West Armed Forces Hospital,
their orientation is a combination of classroom instruction
by clinical instructors and clinical orientation by a preceptor
on their unit.

Medical Research and Ethics Committee
Staffing
of the MREC
The hospital has a very active medical research
committee. The Medical Research and Ethics Committee involves
all the clinical departments of the hospital and it has an objective
which is to encourage, review and approve medical ethics and research
projects and publications carried out under well-defined and approved
policy and procedure guidelines of the committee. This hospital
MREC represents the central research body to be fed by the peripheral
Medical Research and Ethics Committees of the various departments.
All applications
for research approval are forwarded to the Medical Research and
Ethics Committee via the Departmental sub-committee, approved
by the Departmental Chief and scrutinized. Ethical implications
of each research are considered during the approval stage as infringement
on the privacy of research participants will not be allowed. Outside
assessors may be consulted if required. Regular progress reports
will be required.
